Documentary on Pantaneiros

Hi all,

I found a cute little documentary about Pantaneiros from the perspective of a boy on a conservation ranch. The link is here if you're interested.

I know the purpose of this trip is primarily to explore the wetlands, but I still think that learning about the local culture is useful to contextualize our experience in nature. As we have learned, most of the Pantanal is under private ownership. Given this fact, it is impossible to fully understand the ecology of the wetlands without having a working knowledge of the people who are responsible for cultivating most the land. In this video, we see an example of those who work to conserve the wetlands. Instead of killing jaguars, they simply catch them and put sensors on them to monitor their activity; they also educate others about conservation to emphasize its importance. They are a great example of environmentally-conscious farmers.

Even though we're already familiar with many of the themes the documentary covers, I still found it valuable because of the footage. There are beautiful shots of birds flying over the forest and of jaguars prowling by the river, and this imagery helps me picture what my own experience will be like. If you haven't seen any videos of the Pantanal yet, I would suggest you see some before you go. The wetlands are alive and beautiful in a way that still frames cannot capture!
